Ricco' Dina

Associate Professor of Design at the Politecnico di Milano (Department of Design). She holds a degree in Architecture and a PhD in Industrial Design, and has been teaching courses on perception and visual communication at the Politecnico di Milano since 1996.

Her primary research focus is on synesthesia as applied to design and the accessibility of audiovisual content, particularly within museum contexts.

In the field of accessibility, she has initiated and currently oversees scientific collaborations between the Department of Design and the Milan Institute for the Blind (Istituto dei Ciechi di Milano), Rai Pubblica Utilità / Accessibilità, the Omero State Tactile Museum in Ancona, and the Pinacoteca di Brera.

She is the author of over 140 scientific publications—including books, journal articles, and papers for national and international conferences—most notably the following books: Sinestesie per il design (Etas, Milan, 1999; selected for the XIX Compasso d'Oro Award, 2001), Sentire il design (Carocci, Rome, 2008; reprinted in 2019), editor (with M. J. de Córdoba, E. M. Hubbard, S. A. Day) of the proceedings of the III Congreso Internacional de Sinestesia, Ciencia y Arte (Fundación Internacional Artecittà, Granada 2009), co-author (with M. J. de Córdoba et al.) of Sinestesia. Los fundamentos teóricos, artísticos y científicos (Fundación Internacional Artecittà, Granada, 2012; selected for the AWDA 2012 Award), later expanded and translated into English (2014), editor (with M. J. de Córdoba, S. A. Day, J. Julia López de la Torre, J. Jewansky) of the proceedings of the V Congreso Internacional de Sinestesia, Ciencia y Arte (Instituto de Estudio Giennenses, Jaén, 2015), editor (with M. J. de Córdoba) of seven editions of an international review dedicated to Visual Music, including MuVi5. Video and moving image on synesthesia and visual music / MuVi5. Vídeo e imagen en movimiento sobre sinestesia y música visual (2018, selected for the ADI Design Index 2019).

Editor of the book Accessibilità museale. Le prospettive per il design della comunicazione (FrancoAngeli, 2023) and co-editor of the book Accessibilità comunicativa. Progettare contenuti per tutti (with Maria Chiara Andriello, Rai Libri, 2024).

Supervisor and co-supervisor of over 80 Master’s theses in Communication Design and five-year degree theses in Architecture, as well as several international PhD theses—including two joint-supervision theses between Politecnico di Milano (Department of Design) and the University of Granada (Department of Drawing, 2017), for which he initiated and managed the formal agreements, and an international PhD thesis with IADE Universidade Europeia (Lisbon, Portugal / Politecnico di Milano, 2025). She is a member of the PhD Faculty for the Doctoral Program in Design at Politecnico di Milano.
