A horizontal collage features the heading "LABORATORIO MOBILITA' E TRASPORTI" (Mobility and Transport Laboratory) superimposed on a band of six vertical stripes in different colors: lilac, dark purple, dusty blue, beige, ochre, and olive green. Beneath each color band is a small square photograph illustrating different contexts of the transport sector: night traffic on a highway seen from above, an illuminated toll booth or highway barrier, light trails from moving vehicles, a tunnel entrance, a high-speed train passing on a track, and a line of cars in traffic near a roadwork sign. The graphic composition pairs color variety with the diversity of infrastructure and means of communication, suggesting a multidisciplinary approach to the study of mobility.

The Laboratory carries out research and development activities in the various sectors of Transport Engineering, mainly oriented towards the most innovative themes in terms of methodology, technology, organization and applications.

It constitutes an elastic structure cooperating with public and private, national and international partners, able to guarantee a profitable balance between basic research, applied research and consulting activities.

The thematic areas around which the teaching of the Laboratory is organized are:
