Relive: novel design approaches to livingness

Publication

Relive: novel design approaches to livingness edited by Venere Ferraro and Giorgia Burzio has been published by FrancoAngeli.

This volume is the outcome of the FARB research project Relive, developed within the Department of Design at Politecnico di Milano. The book explores innovative, design-oriented approaches to livingness—the capacity to design living artefacts by integrating living materials and digital technologies.

With interdisciplinary contributions from the fields of biology, design, and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Relive offers a new conceptual framework of livingness, articulated through three levels of living materials. It features theoretical insights, case studies, and the outcomes of three workshops—two held at the School of Design and one at an international conference with domain experts.

A foundational resource for designers, researchers, and practitioners interested in developing regenerative futures and interaction models based on mutual care.
