Andrea Branzi: autodidattica

Meeting

June 9, 2026, 3:00 – 7:00 pm, Triennale Milano, viale Emilio Alemagna 6, Milan

The event features an afternoon symposium organized on the occasion of the exhibition Andrea Branzi by Toyo Ito. Continuous Present (on view until October 4, 2026), presented in collaboration with the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain.

The symposium aims to explore the extensive teaching career of the artist, designer, and architect, beginning with his university experiences in Florence and continuing through the founding of Global Tools, the experimental lifelong learning school, his leadership of the Industrial Design programme during the formative years of Domus Academy – the first postgraduate school of design – his collaboration with Politecnico di Milano, and finally the establishment of the Scuola di Piazza Bausan.

Through reflections by friends, collaborators, former students, and colleagues, the event offers an overview of the themes and research that characterized Branzi’s educational activities, focusing on his investigations into the deeper meaning of design and the human condition, developed through courses, workshops, and doctoral programmes.

The seminar opens with a lecture by architect Iñaki Ábalos on the influence of Andrea Branzi’s and Toyo Ito’s thinking on contemporary design practice, at the intersection of disciplines.
