Master in Artificial Intelligence for public services (AI4Gov)

Planned program start: 1 October 2021

Aim and focus:

This is a world-class master’s program that will prepare the future digital transformation leaders for AI in the public sector. It focuses on the planning, design and usage of AI in public service delivery, so as to improve the provision, effectiveness and value of public services and public sector’s capacity throughout European society by means of an adequate management, knowledge and development of AI-related projects and services.

(Ideal) Student profile:

The expected profile of students to be enrolled in the program are of two types:

  • Students from any discipline aiming to become functional specialists for the implementation of AI-based services in any public-related institutions.
  • Staff working in public-related institutions aiming to complete their education with the practical knowledge on how to implement, manage and govern AI-based services.


1 year program, 60 ECTS, mixed online and onsite formats, detailed course structure on website

Module 1: AI in public administration (introductory course) (4.5 ECTS)
Module 2, 3, 4 (13.5 ECTS total):

  • Basic concepts and techniques in AI
  • Human-centered AI-based service design
  • AI and ethics

Module 5: Practical use cases (35 ECTS total, 7 ECTS per use case)
Predefined group-based hands-on projects, each one structured in 4 weeks of work

  • Active listening and interaction with citizens
  • AI for public procurement
  • AI-based service design for sustainability
  • AI for improved data governance
  • AI for citizen participation and deliberation

Module 6: Final use case (7 ECTS)
Final group-based hands-on project, including onsite hackathon
